About us

The Rock and Surf Super Pro League, or better known as RASSPL, was founded in 2010 by Dean Dickenson, a conservation minded angler, who wanted to introduce a national angling competition in South Africa that is strictly catch & release.
Since its inception in 2010, the RASSPL revolution has grown within its memberships. “I want to get anglers back into the sport of fishing and give them the opportunity to get something back from the sport. What the IPL did
for cricket, RASSPL will do for fishing”.
Dean has since realized this dream, now boasting with 10 franchises between South Africa and Namibia. RASSPL is also now the biggest competitive catch and release fishing series in South Africa, with anglers from all over the country, competing against each other for grand prizes and cash incentives.
RASSPL is also officially a NPC.
RASSPL was created with conservation in mind. We are a strict 100% catch and release fishing competition. RASSPL supports all conservation minded institutes who will help protect our future fish stocks.
Because our fish stocks and coastline are under severe pressure, we will have official members tagging fish at competitions and research institutes like Rhodes, SAIB, ORI and SASC taking samples, as well as certain species being
fitted with tracking transmitters to study their migrating patterns and breeding behaviour. This information will help with the future of our shoreline species
